Activity 2.3 Introduction
Inclusive Leadership Practices
This activity will help you think about how inclusive you are as an ECE manager and leader.
Through this self-reflective activity, you will examine your priorities, preferences, and biases more deeply to build and sustain a safer environment where every child and staff member can thrive.
The Key to Inclusive Leadership
Read Bourke and Titan's (2020) blog entitled The Key to Inclusive Leadership.
After reading the article, you will continue to the next page of this activity and rank the traits of inclusive leaders to identify your strengths and opportunities for growth and development.

Matching game
Bourke and Titus (2020) contended that these traits are clustered and equally important as an inclusive leader.
To better familiarize yourself with the Inclusive Leadership Traits, match the trait with its correct description.
What now?
Awareness of Inclusive leadership traits is only the beginning. Consider the following reflective questions and actions you might take to be a more inclusive leader.
- How do I foster an inclusive environment?
- What strategies have I implemented to ensure that diverse voices are heard, valued, and integrated into my decision-making practices?
- To what extent have I examined my own biases and stereotypes that may influence my leadership practices?
Reflect on these independently, but to generate deeper insights, consider asking those you work with, friends, and other leaders similar questions to solicit feedback and take action!
