Welcome to Module 2: Human Resources

In this module, you will explore the essential knowledge and skills required to effectively and ethically lead at your childcare centre.

An emphasis will be placed on understanding the importance of adhering to the Employment Standards Act, WorkSafeBC regulations, and Human Rights to ensure fair treatment, compliance, and a safe workplace for all staff. 

Whether resolving conflicts, addressing grievances, or establishing clear HR policies, this section will equip you with the tools needed to lead human resource management with confidence and professionalism.  

The estimated time to complete Module Two based on content, activities, and assessments is ten hours (10 hours or 600 minutes)

Learning outcomes serve as a valuable resource to guide your learning journey and ensure you can maximize your learning experience. The primary purpose of this section is to clearly communicate the intended learning outcomes of Module Two: Human Resources.  

The learning outcomes for Module Two align with the content, activities, and assessments you will encounter throughout Module One, enabling you to track your growth and identify improvement opportunities. 

After completing all activities within Module Two, participants will:  

  • Examine the administrative human resource responsibilities of employers related to record keeping, hiring, staff evaluations, B.C. labour laws, licensing staffing regulations and worksafe practices. 

Module Two Activities

The activities within Module Two include:

  • ACTIVITY 2.1 | Onboarding Reflection Reflect in your journal on your centre’s current onboarding and retention practices, considering what is working, what could be improved, and what might be let go to better support a thriving workforce.
  • ACTIVITY  2.2 |  Case Scenario: Hiring -  Examine fair hiring practices by reviewing human rights guidelines, reflecting on creating non-discriminatory job postings and fostering fair hiring decisions. 
  • ACTIVITY 2.3 | Creating an Anti-discrimination Policy Review equity-focused resources and draft an anti-discrimination policy on a chosen topic, such as inclusion, pay equity, or harassment, for your centre.
