Welcome to Module 2: Leading Alongside Regulatory Systems
In Module Two, participants will learn how legislation, regulations and practices impact work on the floor of Early Learning settings. A clear understanding of these will help you become an effective leader in your setting.
Although most of the information about the requirements of B.C. labour laws, WorkSafe, and governing bodies is covered in the Leadership Essentials of Governance, Finance, and HR course, it is important to mention aspects in this course.
Going above and beyond the minimum Child Care Licensing requirements, Occupational Health and Safety Regulations, and B.C. labour law minimum standards will ensure the well-being of educators and reduce burnout.
The estimated time to complete Module Two based on content, activities, and assessments is ten hours (10 hours or 600 minutes)Learning outcomes serve as a valuable resource to guide your learning journey and ensure you can maximize your learning experience. The primary purpose of this section is to clearly communicate the intended learning outcomes of Module Two: Leading Alongside Regulatory Systems.
The learning outcomes for Module Two align with the content, activities, and assessments you will encounter throughout Module Two, enabling you to track your growth and identify improvement opportunities.
After completing all activities and the reflective assessment within Module Two, participants will:
- Gain knowledge of health and safety protocols, licensing regulations, and the BC Employment Act to ensure a safe, supportive working environment for children, families, and ECE professionals.
- Evaluate the role of ongoing professional development (Pro-D) in enhancing personal and team practices, contributing to a culture of continuous learning and ethical responsibility in the early learning environment.

The activities within Module Two include:
- ACTIVITY 2.1 | Advocating Within Systems Consider how you might advocate for and support ECE educators' holistic wellness at your centre.
- ACTIVITY 2.2 | Occupational Health and Safety RegulationsConsider the policies and procedures that might be important to incorporate into your staff and parent handbooks to ensure the health and safety of children and staff.
- ACTIVITY 2.3 | Childcare Licencing Regulations Explore licensing resources and examine case studies to consider licensing in context.
- ACTIVITY 2.4 | Child, Family and Community Services Act Consider your leadership responsibilities for reporting any suspected child abuse or concerns that a child may be at risk of harm at your centre.
