Welcome to Module 2: How space, place and time can support inclusion
Our environment, both inside and outside, gives messages to children, families and our team. In this module, we will think about both the outside space and the spaces inside.
We will consider how we organize our environment and shape our spaces for the children and the families, as well as how we organize the daily schedule. We will look at the inside spaces, the outside spaces, and consider how the schedule allows us to support families, children and staff in a caring manner.
Consider whether you have a policy in your centre about families arriving at the centre by a certain time. If so, does this policy promote inclusivity of all families' daily life schedules? How might this policy affect the families' need to meet their own child's needs in the morning? Within your centre, are there policies that might require you to ask a child or family to leave? If so, is this reflective of a vision of inclusivity?
