Assignment Description
The purpose of this assignment is for you to learn to plan and build a tourism-related business website in WordPress.
The website will be on a topic of interest related to your studies. It could be a fictitious business - for example a destination, an activity-based business, a festival or event, or an accommodation.
The website assignment has three deliverables, each is outlined below.
Deliverables:
- A concept proposal defining your target market, your branding, and your website goal (20%)
- A design mock-up/sketch outlining your website page designs and overall website structure (20%)
- A final website with 4-10 pages, which includes any extra industry related functionality, marketing functionality, and strategic use of concepts covered in class for creating a website with impact and purpose. (60%)
Concept Proposal

Submit a 1-page 250-500 words concept proposal, and include all worksheets that you've completed.
Develop and write a proposal for your informational website. The site you build can be for a fictional or actual company, organization or person - with a focus on a topic of interest to you related to your studies. The proposed site must include text, graphic elements, images and embedded sound, maps, or video. The website should be at least 4 pages, and no more than 10 pages.
Include:
- general concept statement (1-2 sentences)
- purpose of the website
- background information
- level of user interactivity and functional requirements (hyperlinks, streaming media, social media, specific functionality required etc.)
- target audience -primary (Include customer persona worksheet_)
- secondary audience (if applicable)
- a brief summation of your brand and unique selling proposition. (include branding worksheet)
- a title page with the project name and your name

Building on your concept proposal, now you will submit how your websites overall look-and-feel.
- Submit your wire-frame worksheet to show site structure, indicating how the 4-10 pages will be organized and linked. Be sure to include any internal cross-promoting opportunities you might have
- Prepare a pencil sketch layout for the homepage including key messages and possible supporting imagery
- Sketch out your internal page layout - showing the page content, and any supporting content that you might use to encourage users to continue. Consider the theme that we are using (or the theme that you choose if you decide to use a different theme)
- provide four - six specific, measurable objectives (in terms of what you want the audience to do, think, feel while/after visiting your website. When writing objectives, include a verb and consider how you could measure this.
For example, if the purpose of your site was to teach travellers common phrases to use when traveling in Brazil, how could you measure your site’s success?
- You could ask the audience to comment on your site’s effectiveness.
- You could include a game that would measure their ability to use common Portuguese phrases.
Note: You will need instructor approval of your mock-up before you can start building your site.

Based on your concept proposal, design mock-up and wireframe - build and publish your 4-10 page website using WordPress. You are expected to work on your website during class time; participation will make up a portion of the final assignment
grade. Sites will be critiqued in the in class 9
