Transcript: Welcome to the ECEL OER [audio introduction]

Welcome to the Leading and Innovating in the Early Childhood Education (ECE) sector open educational resource. We are so thrilled that you are here.

This OER is the result of a BCcampus funded grant project aimed to better understand key leadership priorities and areas for innovation and where they exist in ECE and British Columbia. The goal is to improve early childhood professionals' knowledge and understanding of the current context of childcare and BC.

Using a facilitated exploratory design approach, two dialogue sessions were held at Royal Roads University, with participants from Vancouver Island representing the various rights holders in the ECE sector, including Indigenous voices and special focus independent programs. Focusing on the intended audience of managers and directors of ECE programs, key components of ECE leadership are identified and discussed during these sessions; the result - the creation of this OER! A 20-hour, asynchronous self-paced resource focused on supporting the development of skills, knowledge and abilities required by ECE leaders who manage and lead ECE programs across BC.

This OER was designed to be the equivalent of a non-credit course offering at the post-secondary level and be able to be used by ECE educators toward their continuing professional learning.

Because it's an open resource shared under creative commons licensing, we hope that you'll use the materials and share them with your friends and colleagues.

The quote that it “takes the community to raise a child” is also true of the creation of this OER, and it's with a great deal of humility and thanks that we acknowledge our friends and colleagues who contributed to its development and to our shared learning, as we navigate ECE leadership together.

Thank you for choosing to explore this OER and for continuing to innovate and evolve your practice, and for being you, as you nurture and care for our future generations.

Enjoy.
