Summary: Module One
This module introduced the roles and responsibilities of leaders in early childhood education, focusing on the skills and dispositions required for effective on-the-floor leadership. Leadership in childcare is complex and varies based on factors such as centre size, organizational structure, and governance. Balancing administrative duties with daily interactions requires adaptability, intentional time management, and the ability to foster a supportive environment for children, families, and staff.
Additionally, this module explored shared leadership and peer mentorship and examined strategies for bringing teams together and developing a collective vision. Reflection on communication practices provided insight into leading by example, navigating conflict, and fostering meaningful dialogue. Collaborative and reflective practices were also considered essential tools for co-creating a shared vision and philosophy within early learning environments. This module laid the foundation for understanding leadership as an operational and relational practice that requires strong communication, teamwork, and adaptability.
