Introduction

The Labour Market Information Council defines skills as “developed capacities that an individual must demonstrate to be effective in a job, role, function, task or duty” (LMIC, 2020).

Transferable skills, often referred to as soft skills, are human-centred abilities such as communication, critical thinking, and adaptability. These skills are applicable across various industries and roles, and remain essential as the job market continues to evolve.

While technological skills continue to grow in importance, employers consistently rank transferable skills just as highly, if not more so, than technical capabilities.

As the workplace becomes more automated and digitized, success will depend not just on technical know-how, but also on the ability to collaborate, adapt, and solve problems creatively —skills that machines cannot replicate.
