About the White Paper

Overview

One objective of the paper was to describe the genesis and evolution of the RRU MBA Advanced Strategic Integrative course (BUSA 650) and the enhanced team and problem-based learning (PBL) that it enables. It was also used as an opportunity to contrast the methodology and approach used by RRU for this MBA capstone project course with other domestic and international business schools to gather and assess best practices. The paper also seeks to identify technology currently employed to enable PBL as well as new technology that may enhance teamwork in such courses in the future.

Secondary research regarding current practices at domestic and international business schools confirmed that no other universities are currently advertising PBL as an approach to teaching business at the masters’ level. RRU’s approach to the MBA program is both rigorous and unique.

The current use of technology in BUSA 650 is very effective for the delivery of client case videos and organization specific information as well as more general industry information. The pilot of new tools such as Padlet and Diigo in this intensive face-to-face course indicates that such team collaboration tools may be more useful in online or blended courses. More study of this is currently underway with a pilot of these same tools in two online, MBA courses.
