Add a Blackboard Collaborate room*

Blackboard Collaborate rooms can be added to your Moodle course. If you haven't yet heard of Blackboard Collaborate, it is a web-based tool that we can use for synchronous (at the same time) video conferencing sessions. You can use Collaborate sessions for office hours, for inviting guest speakers into your course at certain times, for welcome and closing sessions to open and close your course, and lots of other reasons. Collaborate is a product of the company called Blackboard and is a plug-in to Moodle. It's got a lot of functionality and in fact, we even have other CTET workshop offerings which teach you how to use it! (See the Blackboard Collaborate Training page on the CTET website for more details.)

For this activity you should:

  1. add a Blackboard Collaborate room to your course
  2. if you'd like, add one or two of your fellow course participants or facilitators as moderators in the Collaborate room

If you would like more guidance or inspiration before you begin:

  • Consult the "Moodle Collaborate" resource on the RRU Computer Services knowledgebase.
  • Read Principle #6 - Activity 56: Cross-Cultural Web Conferencing and Interactions (pp. 169-171) in the TEC-VARIETY book
