Welcome to Learning to Lead! You are invited to participate in this course in ways that feel comfortable for you, but also offer challenges to grow and enhance your knowledge. This course provides a framework for you to think about leadership in early learning and child care. As we begin our journey together, we will follow the traditional Indigenous protocol of recognizing and acknowledging the Land and Territories of the first Peoples who shared the Land with other non human beings for thousands of years before settlers arrived to create what is now known as Canada. Our host, Royal Roads University is located on the traditional Territories of the Lekwungen (lək̓ʷəŋən) speaking peoples - the Songhees, and the Esquimalt Nations. We offer our thanks to the ancestors who took great care to keep the Land and waters healthy in return for the foods and medicines that kept the people well and prosperous. This beautiful land borders on the waters of the Pacific Ocean and is located on the southern tip of what we know as Vancouver Island. The island has mountains, valleys, lakes, and rivers, that provide a rich life for the peoples who have lived here since time immemorial. We are thankful for the abundance of beauty and resources. Think about the place where you live and work and reflect on who were the first peoples to be there. How can you learn more about them? As you travel through this course, you will have the opportunity to reflect on your knowledge of leadership, learn from others expertise, practice new skills, and develop clearer pathways for your future as a leader. The course is set out in five modules. The introduction, three modules of topics with five or six lessons each and the closing. You will need to dedicate approximately 33 hours to complete the readings and activities.
