Welcome to the Responsive Pedagogical Approaches in Early Childcare and Education course!

This openly accessible course site is part a set of open educational resources designed specifically for early childhood education (ECE) leaders and managers in British Columbia, Canada. The content, activities, and examples are grounded in the policies, frameworks, and practices relevant to this region. While we recognize that participants may access these open courses from anywhere in the world, it is important to note that the information presented reflects the BC context. We encourage participants from other regions to consult their local policies, governing bodies, guidelines, and regulations to ensure alignment with their specific practices and professional requirements

This 32-hour course examines inherited historicities of early childhood education and care within the context of British Columbia, Canada and how they continue to shape current norms and practices.

Additionally, participants will be exposed to contemporary pedagogical approaches by engaging with the BC Early Learning Framework, Indigenous Early Learning Frameworks, and Common Worlds Framework

This course encourages learners to develop their pedagogical philosophies and personal standpoints in order to articulate, uphold, and activate equitable, inclusive, socially just, and decolonizing early years spaces. Through analysis and critical self reflection participants will bring breadth and depth to their leadership roles and practices in the name of fostering a responsivity to children, families, and early years professionals within the context of their communities
