Week 4 - Activity 2: Teaching Perspectives

Next, we're going to delve further into connecting the report to our teaching beliefs. We are using a Moodle forum where you will need to make a post before you can see the posts that others have made. This is called a “Question and answer forum”. We like this kind of forum for an exercise like this because it encourages each participant to be creative in interpreting the activity in their own unique way.
Using the TPI report and this week's resources, consider the following:
In this activity, you are invited to complete Teaching Perspectives Inventory (TPI), a simple survey (approx. 10 minutes) to help identify your teaching perspectives and provide further views on your teaching philosophy.
Instructions:
- Go to the Teaching Perspectives Inventory (TPI) website. To begin the survey, click “Take the TPI”.
- The survey will ask for an email address to send your report to; if you prefer not to use your own email address, you can use facdev@royalroads.ca and we will forward the report to you. If using this option, please send us an email letting us know what name you put in the survey and what email address we should send the report to.
- The survey will generate a TPI Profile Sheet with the results displayed on a graph . Review the Profile Sheet along with the Teaching Perspectives Summaries document to intrepret the results.
- Consider as you are reading, your understanding of each perspective.
- Download the TPI Profile Sheet or take a screenshot of the results graphic.

- How does the split in perspectives show up in your teaching?
- Does it provide a realistic lens into your teaching beliefs?
- Identify specific examples or experiences that reflect these beliefs.
Instructions:
- Share: Post your interpretation of report and your teaching beliefs and how they show up in your teaching. You are welcome to share as much or little of the report as you are comfortable. Draw from the weekly readings as well. Your explanation can be text-based, audio-based, or video-based. Feel free to be creative with your interpretation! Consider posting an image or metaphor that could represent your teaching beliefs.
- Dialogue: Offer comments and insights on other posts.
[FLO facilitators keep the note below for large cohorts. Create a thread for Team Blue, Team Orange, and Team Green. Ask Yellow Team facilitators to post a welcome post to the team threads to see the team's replied and their visual representations.]
Note: Due to the large number of participants in this course, this activity is a team activity. It will be facilitated by Team Yellow.
