I am Ron Sam, elected chief of
Songhees Nation. I want to acknowledge that Royal Roads University rests
upon the ancestral lands of Xwsepsum and Lekwungen families, now known
as Esquimalt and Songhees peoples. Our ancestors once resided on the
shores where Sneq’wa e’lun, the Blue Heron house, is located now. That's
where our families gathered and harvested off the land. We welcomed
guests and hosted them with great respect. As you begin your day, take a
moment to acknowledge the rich history this land has.
