Course Wrap Up
This course explored the complex and dynamic role of administrative leaders in British Columbia's childcare centers. Grounded in the unique contexts of early learning environments, this course examined the multifaceted responsibilities of licensees, administrators, directors, and operational managers, including regulatory compliance, policy development, and operational management.
Additions in this course from a First Nations lens supported and provided some insight into what you may have to think about and consider, challenging your own values and beliefs that you may have or your way of thinking. When working with First Nations communities, Tribes or Villages, you have to follow their lead and what they envision for their children, what they value, and what they want their children’s future to look like.
For all that was taken away during and through colonization, the First Nations people want to restore and be able to give their future generations a better life than they have had to experience or go through. It is best to learn from the people who have had to live with these experiences. Their families and community will support you in understanding the ripple effect from colonization and current daily experiences.
You gained some insights into the critical balance required to complete administrative tasks while also fostering meaningful connections with children, families, and educators. The course emphasized the importance of grounding leadership in the daily context of your childcare setting, while also overseeing key functions such as financial management, human resources, and governance.
Building on a trusting relationship is the key to finding success when working alongside our First Nations people. As a leader, you need to follow their lead and know when it is your time to lead alongside the Nation. It is their children; they are building up their children in the way that they envision, and how will you enhance and support this?
