Welcome to the Centre Management in Early Childcare and Education course!
This openly accessible course site is part a set of open educational resources designed specifically for early childhood education (ECE) leaders and managers in British Columbia, Canada. The content, activities, and examples are grounded in the policies, frameworks, and practices relevant to this region. While we recognize that participants may access these open courses from anywhere in the world, it is important to note that the information presented reflects the BC context. We encourage participants from other regions to consult their local policies, governing bodies, guidelines, and regulations to ensure alignment with their specific practices and professional requirements.
This 32-hour course equips early learning and care leaders with the knowledge and skills to foster ethical and responsive leadership. Emphasizing respectful communication, the course supports participants in building collaboration and trust with children, families, and colleagues in their workplace.
This course highlights the dispositions and skills needed to carry out various roles and responsibilities within childcare leadership.
Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of centre policies, procedures, licensing regulations, and employment standards while learning to implement health and safety protocols that ensure a safe and supportive environment for all. The course highlights integrating the centre’s philosophy and the Provincial Code of Ethics into daily practices, promoting ethical decision-making. Additionally, learners will explore the critical role of professional development (Pro-D) in fostering personal growth, strengthening team dynamics, and enhancing program quality.
Participants will consider the complexities of leading in an early learning setting and the importance of advocating for the rights and well-being of children, families, and ECE professionals.
